Today we’d like to share a CMSWire article (The Art of SharePoint Success: Strategy – What Is SharePoint?) by Symon Garfield, about SharePoint Strategy.
In the sixth article of his The Art of SharePoint Success series, Garfield tries to answer a rather elemental question: What is SharePoint?
The article states that even Microsoft people struggle to define SharePoint and gives the example of an ackward attempt to do so by Steve Ballmer in his keynote presentation at the SharePoint Conference 2009.
“What is SharePoint? This is still a question I get asked when out visiting customers… It’s kind of magical in a certain way. It’s a really special kind of product… It’s kinda like an operating system” (Ballmer 2009)”
Garfield’s definition is a bit more helpful:
“SharePoint is a set of integrated technologies which provides a platform upon which an organization can build a flexible, long-term information and knowledge management infrastructure.”
Then he analyzes each of the ideas that are present in his definition as a way to introduce the readers into the Strategy subject.
We recommend you to read the original article here. And as always, feel free to send us your comments.
