Sharing the Point in Uruguay

STPSA Dinner

Share the Point South America Speakers Sponsors dinner

So I have to admit, when we were having dinner in Boston at SPTechCon, with Mark Miller, Paul Swider and Joel Oleson, and they told me they were planning a trip to the south of the continent, to do the ultimate SharePoint session in Antarctica, I thought they were just nuts. I told them… sure, if you come by Uruguay, I will meet you and greet you and take you places, thinking to myself… “they will never pull this through, I mean, Antarctica… come on, only the military and scientist go there, right?”

Well, it seems I was wrong, not in the fact that they are nuts, far from it, now, after spending a day with them, I KNOW they are…., but it seems they are going to pull this through.

Sharing the Point South America, much to my surprise, it’s a reality after all. The crew arrived to Uruguay yesterday. We tried with Fabian Imaz and Ricardo, to make the best display possible of Uruguay’s capital Montevideo in one afternoon. We hired a van, we showed them around, we had dinner, and some even went out looking for the real tango experience. It seems, according to John Anderson, they didn’t have such a bad time after all, which I’m glad for.

And then came the best part for us, we had today the first SharePoint event for the local technological community ever, which was just amazing. On top of that, I’ve been around SharePoint conferences for the past year, and I have to admit today I attended to some of the best SharePoint presentations I ever saw.  The highlights for me were Michael Noel’s Building the perfect farm, and Dan Holme’s Architecting SharePoint for Scalability and Enforceable Governance. It was a full house, with an audience filled with local farm administrators, consultants, and government IT reps.

It was a pleasure and a privilege for the SharePlus team, to be able to sponsor and contribute our share to make this a reality in the region. I´d like to thank the major sponsors AvePoint, and Fpweb.net for making this happen. I’m looking forward to more of this type of events in the region, and I’m wishing all the crew the best of lucks in the remaining legs of the trip, specially the coldest one :)

So, so long and thanks for all the fish!
